This workshop will also be of interest to reporting staff and senior staff that support political meetings. Elected members would also benefit from this workshop.
Governance Professionals Symposium Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 January 2026 - the elections aftermath and what is in store for 2026
Our annual Governance Professionals symposium is one of the highlights of our calendar. The symposium will provide an opportunity to debrief and review pre- and post-election governance-related activities. What worked well/not so well/key learnings?
For those of you who attended the symposium in January 2025, we had a fantastic presentation from Jason Marris, Chief Executive of the Kaipara District Council, on what a Chief Executive is looking for from the democracy support team as the council transitions to a new group of elected members following each election.
Jason has agreed to return for the 2026 symposium to present again, this time on learnings from the 2025 elections process from a democracy support perspective, and post-election processes.
We are delighted to announce that Carol Buckley will be leading a session on unconscious bias. Carol is a wife, mum, and nana, brought up and still based in Rotorua. She is also an experienced leader, facilitator, celebrant, and manager with 38 years of public service under her belt. This is where she honed her skills and expertise in a wide range of areas, including service delivery and finance. Her whakapapa links are Te Arawa (Ngāti Rangiwewehi; Ngāti Kearoa Ngāti Tuarā) and Tainui (Ngāti Huri).
